Finding Just the Right Truck Driving Job

So, you have finished your three to four weeks of truck driving school, you passed all necessary exams to obtain your CDL, and now it is time to find your first job. Congratulations! Now the real work begins find driving jobs .

Many companies are looking for a driver with experience. What if you don’t have a lot of experience? What will set you apart? You do what you would for any job-have a good resume, the necessary skills, and an excellent job interview.

The most important thing to do when preparing your resume is to be honest. You will also want to make sure that you have a professional looking resume. If you don’t type, have someone type it for you. Don’t turn in a hand-written resume! Your resume will show your past few jobs and any education you have had. Make sure you list the truck driving school you attended. Finally, you will want to show any experience and skills that you have that are relevant to the position you are applying for.

You may not have a lot of experience, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have skills that will help you in your future job. Many truck drivers obtain their CDL, but then don’t worry about obtaining endorsements. If you have endorsements that means that you have additional training and thus additional skills.

If you have a tank endorsement, for example, you have been trained on how to handle a tank truck. This opens up many job opportunities that you wouldn’t have had otherwise.

A tank endorsement is just one endorsement, there are others. You can also receive an endorsement in double-triple trailers and HazMat.

Out of all the endorsements, you must be fingerprinted and pass a background check for only one: the HazMat endorsement. If you have been convicted of arson, robbery, smuggling, bribery, or other serious crimes, you cannot obtain a HazMat endorsement. Your HazMat endorsement must be renewed at least every 5 years.
